Prophecy

by sarah marquez

At night, I sleep

with the fan on power-cool.

I dream of picking oranges–

pulling down one branch,

then another, and another,

until all the unripe fruit is left

to hang on the tree. I will eat

well for a week, and nothing

but fruit in season.
