Rooftop Observation on a Day of Good Fortune

by eric lochridge

first warm, dry day of spring
                 lichen, tree cones, rickety stepladder

up on the roof with a leafblower

tossing storms of fir needles off the gables

scraping moss loose with the toe of a boot

extension cord either a tether or a tripwire

the black cat on the ground
blinks her emerald eyes like broken mirrors
