Blackbirds

by attracta fahy

January morning, outside my window

a blackbird on the frosty ground,

fans his feathers.

Suddenly, like an artist

in a throw of passion

he swishes his tail back and fourth,

cutting an arc deep into the ice,

as he watches a female

with warm brown plumage

forage through leaves.
